CE 4:30-5:30pm Aging Issues in our Community: Eldercare and Elder Abuse presented by Ann Marie Cook & Tracey Siebert-Konopko. Most of us are living longer, which is resulting in an unprecedented demographic shift nationwide. In New York state, it is projected that 25% of residents will be aged 60 or older by the year 2030. This shift towards an older population brings both new opportunities and challenges. One such challenge is identification and intervention in cases of elder abuse, an issue that impacts approximately 10% of older adults and often goes unreported. In the 1 hour allotted, we will review the demographics of an aging population and identify the ways in which communities and families are providing care for older adults. We will discuss elder abuse and the impact it has on older adults and families, and provide case studies and examples of elder abuse interventions.
